Why we set up
Because the trade has a reputation, and most of it is earned
Everybody has a story about a plumber. The one who did not turn up. The quote that doubled. The engineer who condemned a perfectly serviceable boiler and happened to have a replacement on the van. Those stories are why people are nervous before they even pick up the phone.
Scarlet exists because doing the opposite is not actually difficult. Price it before you do it. Turn up when you said. Explain what you found in words that mean something. Leave the house clean. None of that is complicated — it is just rarer than it should be.
We are a family business covering both trades, which matters more than it sounds. Heating and plumbing problems overlap constantly: the cold radiator that turns out to be a pressure fault, the bathroom refit that needs the boiler sizing checked first. Because we do both, nothing gets handed to a third party halfway through and nobody blames the other trade when something is not right.
We work on gas and oil, in a part of Wales where plenty of properties are off the mains entirely. And we stay local on purpose — Llanelli, Swansea, Carmarthen and the villages in between. Close enough that when you ring on a Tuesday, we can usually be there before the week is out.

Price it before you do it
Nobody should find out what a job costs when the invoice arrives. Installations get a fixed written quote; repairs get diagnosed and priced before a spanner comes out.

Turn up when you said you would
If we are running late you hear it from us before the slot, not after. It is a low bar and most of the trade still trips over it.

Say the unprofitable thing
If a repair is the better spend than a replacement, we will tell you — even when the bigger job pays us more. That is the whole basis of getting recommended.

Treat the house like someone lives in it
Because someone does. Sheets down, boots off, radio off if you are working, and everything cleared at the end of each day.

Always check your engineer, including us
Every Gas Safe registered engineer carries an ID card with a licence number, the registration expiry and the specific types of gas work they are qualified for. Ask to see it — a genuine engineer expects you to. You can verify any card on the Gas Safe Register’s own website. It takes about thirty seconds and it is the single best protection you have.
